Season 4 Intro: What's New and Coming

September 02, 2024 Ann Marie Season 4 Episode 1

In this intro episode for Season 4, I let you in on what we did, where we are going, what's new, and more!

It’s a new season on Prepping Positively! And I have so much in store this season! So grab a drink, sit back and relax. Let’s get started. Are you ready?

Hi and welcome back to the prepping Positively Podcast! I’m Annie and today we are kicking off season 4 with a very quick update to our homestead, the website, the podcast, and more!

My goodness so much has changed for us! Last season I told y’all we were living in North Florida and had an opportunity to buy the home we were in. Well in the middle of June, my mom fell and after a total of 45 stitches inside and outside of her head and face, Lance and I decided to go back to our Central Florida property.
Since then, my 93-year-old mom has healed perfectly and we went to work.

Since the middle of June, we have remodeled the inside of our home completely, tore out our entire backyard and front yard to start a food forest, planted over 400 vegetable and herb seeds, moved the greenhouse, and added an 8-foot extension to make it larger, built a large dog pen for our three dogs, and took down a ton of fencing.

We have been busy. We decided not to continue the landscape/maintenance business. Instead, Lance returned to work for a landscaping and tree removal company and is happy with his 9 to 5 job.

I, however, started a plant nursery and vegetable and herb stand here on our property. I currently offer aloe plants, snake plants, and orchid trees alongside some geraniums and pothos ivy. When the seedlings are bigger I will add vegetable starters to our offerings. And of course, during harvest time, I will offer vegetables and herbs as well as seeds.

I am also getting into cottage foods. I will offer bread, pies, and so forth to my local community weekly.

I have done a lot of crafting too. I created wooden fall decor, wreaths, wooden signs, and garden decor that I will offer for sale. I haven’t decided whether to do an Etsy store, list it on my website, or sell locally. I am open to suggestions if you have any ideas of what would be best.

I already have over 500 seeds planted in our food forest. Some are in-ground, some are in pots, and some are in raised beds. I still have over 1000 seeds to plant as soon as the season calls for it. We should be able to provide all of the vegetables, fruits, berries, and herbs for ourselves here, with the bonus of selling or preserving the extra.

After our hectic and unstable last 5 years, I finally feel like things are coming together. I have a schedule for myself. I know which days I need to do what tasks. From household chores to gardening tasks to time for crafting, relaxing, and even date nights, I feel so organized again.

I have new posts scheduled on the website every Wednesday and I have videos ready every Friday starting this week also. If you haven’t seen the website, it is https://roadtoreliance.com. The YouTube channel is called Road to Reliance. Be sure to check them out!

So that’s what is new for us! I hope you enjoyed hearing our new plans and where we are headed! If you come to Central Florida anytime soon, look us up on Google, and stop by!

In the meantime, come back. Next Monday where I talk about the new USDA climate map and what it means for your growing season! Until then, stay happy, stay positive, and keep prepping!
