The new year is the perfect time to start decluttering your home. In this episode, I will talk about what to declutter, how to do it, and explain why it is so important to do so now.

Hello, wonderful listeners, and welcome back to the Prepping Positively Podcast! I'm Annie Lewellyn, your host, and I hope you're ready to kick off the new year with a burst of energy and positivity. Today, we're diving into a topic that's not just about tidying up; it's about creating a fresh start for an amazing year ahead. That's right, we're talking about the power of decluttering your home!

Now, I know what you might be thinking: "Decluttering, really?" But trust me, this isn't just about creating more space in your home; it's about setting the stage for a fantastic year. There's something magical about starting with a clean slate and an organized home—it's like giving yourself the gift of clarity and focus.

Let's start room by room because, believe me, the benefits of decluttering extend far beyond just the physical space.

In the living room, consider letting go of items that no longer bring you joy or serve a purpose. A tidy living space can do wonders for your mental well-being. Think about getting extra storage for those blankets, look around the room for items that just don’t serve any purpose and are just taking up space. Box them up and donate them or sell them.

Now, let's venture into the kitchen. Clear those countertops and cabinets out, toss out expired items, and organize your pantry. Check the dates on all your store-bought or self-preserved food items.

Do you really need ten coffee cups or all those extra dishes? How about those icky pans with the teflon coating that are scratched and worn? I don’t know about you, but plastic storage containers are my nemesis. Sort them out, match the lids and get rid of the rest.

Be sure to clean out the fridge and freezer too! Outta dates are outta here!

An organized kitchen not only makes meal prep a breeze but sets the tone for healthier eating habits.

Let’s move on to the bedroom—the sacred space for rest and rejuvenation.

Donate or recycle clothes you haven't worn in ages, invest in storage solutions, and create a serene environment that promotes relaxation.

Try to remove any items that don’t really belong in the bedroom at this time. Did you know that a decluttered bedroom can significantly improve your sleep quality?

Next, of course, let's not forget the home office or workspace.

Clear the desk, organize your files, and create a productive environment. Sort those stacks of papers you have been meaning to get to.

A clutter-free workspace fosters creativity and focus, setting the stage for success in your endeavors. If you’re like me, you have post-it notes on the desk, extra odds and ends everywhere. Clear it out, shred the old papers you no longer need. (Just remember to bag up those shredded goodies because they can be recycled in worm bedding for vermicomposting!

Repeat this decluttering for every area in your home! The attic, a basement, closets, and so on. It a job, but it will be so worth it.

Now, why is decluttering so crucial, especially at the beginning of the year? It's about more than just aesthetics. It's about letting go of the old to make room for the new. It's about creating a space that nurtures your goals, passions, and overall well-being.

It’s about knowing that there is a place for everything and everything is in its place. That’s a fantastic way to start off the new year!

So, my amazing listeners, as we step into the new year, let's do it with intention. Let's declutter our homes, create space for positivity, and set the stage for a year filled with growth, joy, and prepping with purpose.

Thank you for joining me on this decluttering adventure. I'm Annie Lewellyn, reminding you that a clutter-free home is the canvas for a brighter, more organized future. Until next time, stay positive, stay prepped, and embrace the power of decluttering!
